Frade Charity asks supporters to use GiftAid and help raise more money for the most vulnerable in our community.
A county charity is asking its supporters to be aware of Gift Aid which could help it raise tens of thousands more a year.
The charity has now launched a Gift Aid awareness campaign aimed at getting more of its loyal supporters to sign up in store, allowing it to claim an additional 25 per cent from the Government for the sale of donated goods. The Government-backed scheme does not cost the donor anything. All of our in-store staff, ask our supporters two simple questions are you happy to GiftAid-it and are you happy for us to keep your personal details on file to comply with GDPR [privacy regulations]. Inevitably, new donors always ask what Gift Aid is !.
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of a donation to charity. If you are a UK taxpayer, the charity could claim 25p on every £1 donated from the Government at no extra cost to you. This means that if you donate £10, and can Gift Aid, it’s actually worth £12.50. Which is great news for our beneficiaries helping us meet our mission to help those vulnerable members of our community and their families build better lives.
How does Gift Aid work? As a UK taxpayer, you will pay tax on your earnings, pensions or savings, at either a basic rate of 20% or a higher rate of 40%.
Therefore, as you have paid tax on your income that you are then donating to charity, the Government allows the charity to reclaim this tax back.
Do I qualify for Gift Aid?
You can complete a Gift Aid declaration for charities if the amount of UK income tax or capital gains tax you’ve paid in any tax year (from 6th April on year to 5 April the next) covers the amount of tax charities will reclaim on your donations.
For advice on how to check if you’ve paid enough tax to use Gift Aid, please visit the HMRC website.
Frade has invested in a new EPOS [electric point of sale] which allows the Charity to capture all our donors’ details electronically and is reactive by our donors ‘email’ addresses. The new EPOS system designed and installed by Charity Suite captures all our donations and we then catalogue all our larger items by using QR codes for instore identification.
Once sold, the system actives the supporters email address to thank them for their donation and comply with HMRC regulations.
So, no need for paper forms to be filled in and the Charity can claim a further 25% from your valuable donation.
