Our community gardeners have taken advantage of the fine weather this week. The photographs are beautiful and show the progress our volunteers are making turning this previously neglected piece of ground, into a wonderful haven.
There are numerous benefits of community gardening, namely:
1/. Exercise - gardening is highly recommended by GP's as a route to good living and a healthy lifestyle.
2/. Mental Health- gardening is good for the soul, nurturing plants from seeds is rewarding in many ways.
3/. Fresh Produce - gardening is as 'fresh' as it gets. From 'plant to plate' is brilliant as you know exactly where your food has come from.
4/. Community - gardening is a great way to meet a new circle of like minded friends.
5/. Environment - gardening is a super way to lower your impact on the planet by reducing your food miles and eliminating food packaging.
6/. Achievement - gardening brings a real sense of pride in creating your own little idyll, no matter how big or small your space.
We aim to provide a safe and peaceful working environment for adults experiencing difficulties, or with disabilities or mental health issues. Our service users can learn new skills and build on existing ones in many aspects of horticulture and woodwork.
A huge thanks to our sponsors, as without their support projects like these could simply not happen, and get out the ground [pardon the pun]. The Reaching Communities Fund [National Lottery], Thirteen Housing Group, Darlington Building Society, the Jack Brunton Trust and North Star Housing Group.
If you want to join our gardening group pop down to Frade at 426 Marton Road, Middlesbrough or call us on 01642 608791 for more details.
